Virtual Card

By Josue Carrión

Virtual Card

The recently expanded remote work model requires companies to use digital collaboration software. Likewise, they have had to purchase computing equipment and other assets to be sent directly to their employees’ homes to maintain productivity. That’s right — we are talking about a virtual card.

To better understand: it does not have a plastic form (no physical card). As its name suggests, it has no physical form — it lives within a web platform or mobile application and can only be used through these methods. As a customer, you will never be in physical contact with your card.

Since it is an additional card linked to your bank account, you can use it at many merchants. This method allows you to purchase products and services online and in person at establishments with the necessary technology, without having to use cash.

  • How can I get a virtual card?

To get one, you do not need to sign a separate contract with your bank. This card already comes as part of your banking agreement when you open an account with banks such as BBVA, Santander, BanCoppel, Banco Azteca, Banamex, etc.

When you register your card, the bank generates your virtual card automatically. You just need to install your bank’s app, authorize all the required permissions, and you’re done — you now have your virtual card. You can also link your account (physical card) to use it as both a physical and a virtual card.
