How to attract more customers to your business
It is curious how highly prestigious entrepreneurs can so calmly say “you don’t have merchandise for sale — you ARE the merchandise for sale.”
The truth is they are not bad businesspeople. They say it in a way that helps you understand that you are the one who promotes the product.
The art of the merchant is a term given to the way of attracting the public, convincing them that they need your product, and making them buy it. This way you can achieve one-time purchases — just like great entrepreneurs do. But what does the art of the merchant consist of?
The truth is that it is something simple, but it requires confidence in yourself. To sell something to someone, you first have to convince yourself that your product works, is good, or serves the purpose it was made for — whether it is a new dish, an electronic product, a kitchen utensil, or a home/office tool.
This art can be divided into 5 steps:
- Be confident in your product and sell yourself first
As mentioned, you have to be convinced that your product works. Customers don't buy from people who are unsure whether their product is truly functional — it raises doubts, and they prefer to stick to what they already know rather than upgrade to your product.
- Create interest in the product
A product cannot be sold without generating interest. You can achieve this by creating a slogan, a commercial, videos, radio ads, or simply demonstrating the effectiveness, flavor, or usefulness of the product. Many times the best way to create interest is by letting the customer try it for themselves.
- Secure productivity and the sale
Having customers try the product can secure your sale. Statistics show that out of 100% of sales, 65% buy more product after trying it, 25% buy out of curiosity, and the remaining 20% buy out of preference. Ensuring your productivity guarantees you always have product available whenever a sale comes up.
- Build friendly relationships with your customers
This is optional, but if you want more sales it is worthwhile to build rapport with your customers. You will stay in contact with them, and they with the product directly — so they may not only come to your business for one product, but might place bulk orders and secure ongoing sales.
- Treat your customers the way you would like to be treated
From childhood we are told to treat people the way you want to be treated — and it works with buyers too. If you treat your customers aggressively, rudely, judge them by appearances, or throw them out if they don’t buy, they will never return. On the other hand, if you treat them kindly, are attentive, charismatic, and offer solutions when they can’t find what they need — showing trust and a cheerful face whenever they walk in — you will secure a new customer and ongoing sales.
Following these steps, you will achieve success in your sales, as well as happy customers who are eager to buy in quantity.
